Warning of many dangerous weather phenomena occurring from now until October.
It is forecasted that from May to October 2025, many dangerous weather phenomena such as heat waves, heavy rains, thunderstorms,
tornadoes, and lightning will occur nationwide, which can negatively affect daily life and public health.
Widespread heat waves in May
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, ENSO (an abbreviation for the phenomenon of abnormal warming
of the surface sea water - El Nino and the phenomenon of abnormal cooling of the surface sea water - La Nina) is currently in neutral conditions,
with the standard deviation of sea surface temperature in the equatorial central Pacific Ocean approximately equal to the average
of many years in the first week of April.
From May to July 2025, the ENSO phenomenon is likely to maintain a neutral state with a probability of 70-90%. With the above trend,
the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting predicts that in the coming time, the weather situation across the country
will have many fluctuations.
Sharing with reporters, expert Mai Van Khiem, National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, said that in the immediate future,
during the transitional season (April and May), extreme weather phenomena such as thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning, hail,
and strong gusts of wind may occur, especially in the late afternoon.
In addition, in April and May, the possibility of widespread heat waves can also have adverse impacts on people's health, increase the risk
of explosions, forest fires, and affect production and daily life.
Commenting on the weather developments with a "far" trend, expert Hoang Phuc Lam - Deputy Director of the National Center
for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, said that with the above ENSO conditions, heat waves are likely to appear nationwide in May 2025.
From June, heat waves tend to decrease in the Central Highlands and the South. Particularly in the Northern and Central regions,
heat waves are forecast to last until around August; from September, heat waves gradually decrease, the intensity of heat waves is
equivalent to the average of many years in the same period.
The average temperature across the country in the period from May to July 2025 is generally at a level approximately equal to the
average of many years; particularly in the Northwest region of the North, the temperature is 0.5-1 degree Celsius higher than the
average of many years in the same period.
In the period from August to September 2025, the average temperature across the country is also forecast to be 0.5-1 degree Celsius
higher than the average of many years in the same period. In October, it is generally at a level approximately equal to the
average of many years in the same period.
Along with the heat, expert Hoang Phuc Lam said that from May to July 2025, storms and tropical depressions are likely to operate in
the East Sea and affect our country at a level approximately equal to the average of many years (specifically, about 3.2 storms will
appear in the East Sea; 1.2 storms will make landfall).
Notably, during the forecast period, dangerous weather phenomena such as thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts
of wind are likely to occur nationwide; especially during cold spells during the transitional season. It is forecasted that from May to July 2025,
moderate to heavy rains are likely to appear in the Northern, North Central, Central Highlands and Southern regions.
With the above trend, Mr. Lam said that the National Hydrometeorological Agency forecasts that storms, tropical depressions and the
Southwest monsoon are likely to cause strong winds and large waves affecting the activities of ships.
