Honoring Vietnamese: Spreading love to children in New York City, USA
The Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations has coordinated with Columbia University to organize the opening of a free
Vietnamese language class for children of the Vietnamese community aged 6-14.
In New York City (USA), the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations has coordinated with the Vietnamese Language Program at
Columbia University to organize the opening of a free Vietnamese language class for children of the Vietnamese community in New York City and surrounding areas.
According to the VNA reporter at the United Nations, the students are children aged 6-14, most of whom were born in the US, many of whom have foreign parents.
Attending and delivering the opening speech, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang - Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the
United Nations - emphasized the importance of maintaining and promoting the Vietnamese language abroad in general, and in the US in particular.
The Ambassador believes that the Vietnamese language teaching and learning sessions at the Mission headquarters will always be lively and full of
laughter in the spirit of learning while playing, helping children not only improve their Vietnamese proficiency but also have the opportunity to
understand more about the cultural traditions and history of the nation, thereby becoming increasingly connected to their homeland and country.
On this occasion, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang sincerely thanked the enthusiastic cooperation and support of the Vietnamese Language Program
at Columbia University, especially from close friends of the Mission such as Professor Nguyen Lien Hang, Director of the Weatherhead East Asian
Institute and lecturer Nguyen Phuong Chung, Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures, Columbia University.
Speaking on behalf of the Vietnamese Language Program of Columbia University, Professor Nguyen Lien Hang expressed her honor to accompany
the Vietnamese diplomatic representative agency in activities to preserve the Vietnamese language and culture in the United States.
The professor hopes that the activities jointly organized by the two sides will be successful, contributing to inspiring and motivating the learning
and teaching of Vietnamese in New York City.
Immediately after the opening ceremony, the young students began their first class with spelling and pronunciation exercises combined with group
activities under the guidance of volunteer instructors from Columbia University.
In parallel with the newly opened Vietnamese language teaching program for the community, the Association of Spouses of the Vietnamese Mission
to the United Nations has regularly maintained Vietnamese language and culture classes for the children of officials of Vietnamese representative agencies in New York.
These are meaningful and practical activities towards the "Day of Honoring Vietnamese Language in the Overseas Vietnamese Community
(September 8)" and responding to the contest "Searching for Vietnamese Ambassadors Abroad in 2025" launched by the State Committee
for Overseas Vietnamese, Ministry of Foreign Affairs./.
