The United States Expands US-Vietnam Defense Cooperation with Delivery of T-6C Trainers
The delivery of five new generation, US-made T-6C trainers demonstrates the United States’
commitment to partnering with Vietnam as it develops its own defense capabilities under the
US-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Ambassador Marc Knapper and Commander of the US Pacific Air Forces, Gen. Kevin B. Schneider,
joined Commander of the Air Defense - Air Force (ADAF) Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Hien for
the T-6C trainer handover ceremony. The delivery of the first T-6C trainers - five of 12 - is an
important milestone in the bilateral defense relationship.
“This handover represents an important step forward in our growing partnership with Vietnam,”
said U.S. Ambassador Marc Knapper. "The T-6C trainer aircraft will provide valuable support to Vietnam's
pilot training program, reflecting our shared vision of a strong, prosperous, independent, and resilient
Vietnam that contributes to regional stability and security.
The transfer of these advanced and modern aircraft underscores the growing cooperation between
the U.S. Department of Defense and the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense and reinforces the
commitment to joint training and capacity building. This cooperation reflects the spirit of the U.S.-Vietnam
Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, promoting shared growth and common goals.
Speaking at the event, Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Hien, Commander of the Air Force of Military Region 4,
said: "This aircraft is a useful equipment to support Vietnamese military pilots to supplement and improve their
training capacity, interoperability, meet the requirements of military pilot training, and be ready to perform missions
and protect the homeland. In the coming time, the Vietnamese side is committed to cooperating with the The
United States in the most effective exploitation and use of the T-6C aircraft, as a basis for training and assignment
