Vietnam team sets a series of new records when winning the ASEAN Cup 2024

Not only winning the ASEAN Cup (AFF Cup) for the third time in history,

the Vietnamese team also set a series of new records.

The Vietnamese team excellently defeated Thailand 3-2 right at Rajamangala Stadium to win

the ASEAN Cup 2024, with a total score of 5-3 after two matches.

The "Golden Star Warriors" became the first team in the history of the tournament to defeat

Thailand in both final matches. This is the first time the "War Elephants" have suffered such a

heavy defeat in the final of the Southeast Asian championship.

Coach Kim Sang Sik and his team also set a record of 7 wins in one ASEAN Cup (the previous AFF Cup),

something that even Thailand has never done in the 29-year history of the tournament. Ending the

tournament with an unbeaten record (7 wins, 1 draw), Quang Hai and his teammates affirmed their

superiority with an impressive goal difference of +15 (21 goals, 6 losses), breaking the old record

of the team set in 2022 of +13.

On the journey to conquer the regional throne for the 3rd time of the "Golden Dragons",

Nguyen Xuan Son became a bright spot. Right in the first official tournament in the red shirt,

he scored 7 goals and won the Golden Boot award - the first time a Vietnamese player won this award.

Notably, Xuan Son did not play in the first 3 matches but still surpassed all opponents to affirm his talent.

Together with Tien Linh, the two became the first duo of the Vietnamese team to score at least 4 goals in an AFF Cup.

Not only that, the Vietnamese team also equaled Singapore's achievement by defeating Thailand twice

in the AFF Cup final (2008 and 2024). Previously, only Singapore achieved this feat in 2007 and 2012.

In addition, the Vietnamese team is also the only team in the history of the tournament to win twice

on the home field of the Golden Temple team, something no other team has done.
